Luis Felguérez grew up surrounded by art, and he founded the Arte Felguérez® Workshop/Gallery in 1988 to maintain his father’s legacy of creative, unique sculpture-making.
The original Arte Felguérez® sculptures were designed in 1964 by the world renowned artist Manuel Felguérez, Luis’ uncle. Originally, twenty five animal models and sixty human figurines were designed with themes such as sports and playing children. These works of art were a fusion of iron and paper maché, showing the subtle influences of Manuel’s teachers Ossip Zadkine and Franciso Zuñiga. Luis’ father, Luis Sr., continued the development and sales of these sculptures.
In his youth, Luis studied drawing, art history, and design. He holds an undergraduate degree in marketing and has continued his education with postgraduate work. Luis began working in his father’s workshop and gallery when he was 12 years old, later allowing him to expand and enrich the sculpture collection.
To date, over 200 of Luis’s original designs have continued to make the work of Arte Felguerez renowned worldwide. His recent sculptures have appreciated in value and have been featured by auction houses such as Christie’s New York, as well as being recognized in important expositions in Europe, the U.S. and Latin America.
Currently, Luis’ small sculptures decorate highly valued spaces in homes and commercial firms, and larger versions have been crafted in stainless steel (up to 5 mts) to enhace and enliven public spaces such as UDEM and Grupo Chapa, among others.
Each of these works of art is unique, and all are still individually crafted in the Arte Felguerez workshop. The care taken from the design phase through manufacturing is based on a very strict artistic process that transforms the raw materials for each sculpture into a collectable work of art with a value that appreciates. The sculptures are ideal for decoration, personal or corporate gifts, as well as prizes and trophies. All special requests can be placed through the specialized design area of the Arte Felguérez® Workshop/Gallery.
