The Port of Mazatlan is a major route for transporting goods by sea export and import in the north. It began operations in 1890 and was resized in 1991 as part of a project for the development of the region.
Mazatlan is Multi-Purpose Port in commercial, tourist, fishing and oil, of regional influence. Its operation is critical to the economy of northern Mexico to the management of agriculture, fisheries, automobiles and industrial goods.
Its business lines are integrated in the following areas: general cargo, containers, oil and oil products, cars and cruises. They are also facilities for the operation of ferries, shipyards, sport fleets, freezers, marine research and education.
